The annual cleaning and maintenance of the Submarine Veterans Memorial occurred on September 11, 2019, in West End Park. This is accompanied by a Tolling of the Bell ceremony, in memory of lost shipmates.
In addition to cleaning and polishing, elements of the memorial were replaced due to age and wear.

On Friday, February 8, 2019, Submarine Veterans from the Lehigh Valley base honored State Representative Ryan Mackenzie (134th District) at his office in Macungie.
Members presented Mr. Mackenzie with a plaque welcoming him as a honorary Submariner in gratitude for his support of all veterans in his district and within the State of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Mackenzie hosts monthly appointments with an outreach specialist from the American Legion for veterans who have questions about benefits and services they have earned. Appointments to talk with an outreach specialist are offered the second Friday of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mackenzie’s district office at the Lower Macungie Township Administration Building.
He has also passed legislation, Act 129 of 2016, to improve banking industry regulations and strengthen consumer protections; Pennsylvania Startups for Soldiers, which waives state business filing fees for veterans and active duty service members to reward military service and promote entrepreneurship.
George Dolgos, Base Commander, presents District. Hon. Ryan E. Mackenzie with award.
The "Be an Angel" campaign for our base was a success, thanks to you! We received much needed (and appreciated!) donations this holiday season!
All proceeds go to fund the "Kaps for Kids" program, where members of the Lehigh Valley base visit children with challenging medical conditions, making them honorary submariners, Children learn about submarines, and what it is like to serve as a crew member, deep below the waves of the ocean.
Your donation is used to purchase hats, pins, bracelets and certificates for these children on their special day.
Our next visit is scheduled February 15th.

On July 13, 2016, four members of the Allentown, PA Lehigh Valley Base Kap(SS)4Kids(SS) team conducted their first outreach at Camelot for Children located in Emmaus , Pa. The team included George and Kathy Dolgos (Base Co-chairs Kap(SS) 4Kids(SS)), Jim Dalmaso and Fritz Ohlsen. Camelot for Children is a charitable organization that is a gathering place for seriously ill, handicapped or disabled children.
The team had the opportunity to do a 90 minute presentation on submarines during Camelot’s Adventure Week at summer camp. 27 campers along with their helpers and camp staff were in attendance. Submarine models, pictures, and other memorabilia were displayed. Activities included having the campers submit questions about submarine life aboard a submarine while on patrol. Many campers were concerned about sharks, garbage disposal, and food. An activity that worked well was the writing of family grams as if they had a family member on patrol. After sharing some of their completed messages, certificates, hats, and bracelets were presented to all campers.
To thank our neighbors in the Lehigh Valley that are flying our colors, and as a reminder that Flag Day is June 14th, the Lehigh Valley Submarine Veterans will be distributing cards throughout the Valley.
Do you proudly display the flag? We'd love to say "thank you" by posting your pictures on our site! Please send them to lvsubvets@gmail.
